Citizen of the Year

In 2015, John Wink was honoured as the Fonthill Kinsmen Citizen of the Year, one of Pelham’s highest recognitions for community service and volunteerism. Presented annually by the Kinsmen Club of Fonthill & District, the award celebrates individuals who demonstrate exceptional dedication to improving the lives of others through volunteer work and community involvement.

The Citizen of the Year Award is not based on a single achievement, but on a lasting commitment to making the community a better place. Recipients are nominated by members of the public and selected for their leadership, generosity, and willingness to give their time and talents in service to others. Since the award was established in 1998, it has recognized Pelham residents whose volunteer efforts have left a meaningful and lasting impact on the community.

For John Wink, the award reflected years of dedicated service to Pelham. Through his involvement with local organizations, community events, charitable initiatives, and civic leadership, John earned a reputation as someone who consistently stepped forward to help. Whether working behind the scenes, supporting local causes, or bringing people together to achieve common goals, his focus has always been on strengthening the community he calls home.

Receiving the Fonthill Kinsmen Citizen of the Year Award was a meaningful acknowledgment of John’s belief that strong communities are built by people who are willing to serve. That same commitment to collaboration, volunteerism, and community continues to guide his work today.

As John looks to the future, the values that earned him the Citizen of the Year honour remain at the heart of everything he does: listening to residents, working together to solve problems, and making Pelham an even better place to live, work, and raise a family.
